Say hello to our March cover star, Ann Le! She opens up about her accounting background and how her DIY projects come together. Read on to learn more about Ann!
How have you changed over the last 5 years?
Over the last 5 years I have definitely evolved into becoming a more open-minded person. Moving to California and doing what I do in the public eye on YouTube has not just given me new opportunities, but it enriched my overall life experience along the way. I get to see life in different perspectives and I have the opportunity to learn something new every day. I feel as if I’m more understanding, grateful and compassionate to the world and myself.
Where do you see your career in 5 years?
I always enjoy providing value through what I learn and experience by sharing it with others. I love sharing my knowledge and I would love to continue that on a bigger scale. My next big accomplishment will be to build a kick ass team that believes in the same values as I do. We’ll grow together by sharing those values to others.
How do you conceptualize your DIY projects?
Sometimes I’m super organized where I would write down my ideas and sketch those ideas out in my “DIY notebook.” Then, I would execute it step by step and adjust along the way. Other times, I would just imagine how I want to do it in my head and hope for the best when it comes to actually doing it. Improvise and adapt!
Do you ever fail miserably at DIY?
Only about 10 thousand times a week, not much at all. What a lot of viewers don’t get to see is the number of times that a DIY doesn’t come together as planned or not as expected. On some frustrating projects, I would just walk away for a few hours or days and try again. I always make sure to try before giving up. Although my DIYs and videos look polished and perfect, mistakes and fails do happen!
What was your job before you were a content creator?
I was helping my husband Eric with his tax and accounting business as a company manager. I prepared people’s taxes, got yelled at by customers, worked on payroll, get yelled at by employees, managed employees that then got yelled at by angry customers who wanted their refund money from the IRS. It was super exciting to get yelled at everyday for something you have no control over. Retail is tough, but I learned a lot of lessons about working with others and customers that I use to this day. I’m grateful for the experience, but I don’t think I want to repeat it again.
What is your favorite type of content to make?
I really enjoy how-to lifestyle videos, from girly fashion tips to living a more productive lifestyle. I just love sharing my knowledge to help anyone in anyway.
What would you say is your biggest accomplishment to date?
My present moment. I get to wake up every morning, be my own boss and create fun ideas to share with like-minded people around the world. Best of all, I get to be with my family all the time. It’s an accomplishment that many dream about and I am so blessed to be able to actually do it.
Why did you decide to collaborate with Eylure to create your own lashes?
When I was approached with the idea of designing my own lashes, I was super excited because I’ve been really into lashes over the past couple of years. I feel like I’ve become an expert at lashes through trial and error. Finding well fitting lashes has been difficult for me because I have hooded lids and most of the lashes on the market are not for us girls with hooded lids. I’ve been though hundreds of pairs of lashes trying to figure out the right kind of lashes for my eyelids. When Eylure came to me with this project idea, I was really excited. They gave me an opportunity to design lashes from the ground up with whatever design I wanted. Finally, I could make lashes for hooded lids! I was able to really make the lashes to my own creative vision as opposed to just putting my name on an existing product. It was and still is a super cool collaborative project for me.
Where can we buy them and how long will they be available?
They are exclusively sold in Walgreens stores across the US and at Walgreens.com. If you see them at your local Walgreens, don’t forget to take a picture and tag me!
Do you have any upcoming projects you can tell us about?
I have a couple of top secret projects I’m working on that I can’t say too much about, but they will have a focus on empowering women and helping them achieve their best selves.
